Woman Arrested For DUI After Car, Train Collision
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities said a 53-year-old Virginia woman was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence after her car got stuck on train tracks and collided with a train in northern Minnesota.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to a crash at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Highway 68 in Sandy Township. When authorities arrived, a woman identified as Mary Picek was traveling westbound on the highway in a GMC Envoy when it went off the road and got stuck in snow near railroad tracks. An oncoming train saw the vehicle, but couldn't slow down in time to avoid the vehicle.
Authorities said there was a slow speed collision between the train and the vehicle. Picek was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash but was not injured. Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, and she was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
