Woman, 38, Pleads Guilty In Uptown Hit-And-Run
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 38-year-old woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to attempted murder for running down a man last summer outside a bar in Minneapolis' Uptown neighborhood.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office says Angela Jackson pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted murder for the hit-and-run that left a man critically injured on Aug. 15, 2014.
At around bar close early that morning, Jackson was at the Bulldog on Lyndale Avenue with a group of people. But after an argument broke out over the bar tab, the group was told to leave.
Surveillance video in the bar showed that one of the men in the group hit Jackson, and she told the court that this made her angry, the attorney's office said.
Jackson then tried to use her car to run down the man that hit her. Her friends were in the passengers seats watching as Jackson failed to hit the man and instead crashed into a parked car.
She then went around the block and tried again to hit the man as he crossed the street. But she failed again and struck Tarrince Winbush, who was walking with the man.
Jackson was traveling around 40 mph when she struck Winbush.
A witness said Winbush "looked like a rag doll just thrown up in the air, flipping around."
According to court officials, the prosecutor told the judge that Winbush is still in a coma and suffers from a serious brain injury.
Jackson will be sentenced on Feb. 6, court officials say. She is expected to get a prison sentence of 12 to 15 years.
