Wolves Draft 2013: Shooter Or Athlete?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's the time honored question -- do you want to go with need, or the best player available?
The Timberwolves may have to make that decision at No. 9 Wednesday night in the first round of the NBA Draft.
When Ray Allen hit the clutch Game 6 shot in the finals, it reminded the league you better be able to shoot it to play in the league.
"I don't think you can win in college or the NBA without shooting the 3 – the finals was the prime example," Flip Saunders said.
Does that mean the Wolves will draft a shooting guard?
If they do, it could be LeHigh's CJ McCollum. He reeks of confidence and he knows the Timberwolves' needs.
"They were last in the NBA for 3-point percentage for starters -- I'm a pretty good 3-point shooter. I shot 52 percent from 3," he said.
The most interesting -- and tempting if he's there -- could be Indiana's Cody Zeller, who is not a shooting guard.
He plays where Kevin Love plays.
"I think I fit in well, to be able to grow behind Love and Pekovic – it's definitely a talented team and Rubio would be fun to play with," Zeller said.
The reality check is whoever the Wolves draft tonight it won't have people flocking to Target Center to buy tickets. They need to drive themselves through free agency or trade before taken seriously as a playoff contender.
