Witness: Scene Following Ariz. Sweat Lodge 'Ugly'
CAMP VERDE, Ariz. (AP) -- Fawn Foster expressed disbelief at the conditions of people who were participating in an Arizona sweat lodge ceremony.
She testified Friday that she became concerned when a lady was being pushed back toward the sweltering structure, a man became delirious and a nurse tried to wrap another man's burned arm in a towel.
Foster, becoming emotional at times, says she didn't do anything to stop the ceremony because she believed the man conducting it would have done so if participants were in trouble.
Three people died following the October 2009 ceremony led by James Arthur Ray. He has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges.
Defense attorneys sought to attack Foster's credibility with her criminal history and her emotions.
Testimony in the trial resumes Tuesday for the sixth week.
