Wisconsin National Guard Activated To Assess Flood Damage

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin National Guard members have been activated to help assess flood damage in northern Wisconsin.

About two dozen guard members will work with Wisconsin Emergency Management and the Department of Transportation to determine the extent of infrastructure damage. The guard members include engineers from the 157th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade's 724th Battalion, which is headquartered in Chippewa Falls.

So far, nine counties, the Bad River Band and the Department of Natural Resources have submitted initial damage assessment for roads, bridges and trails totaling more than $31 million.

Next week, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will conduct a preliminary assessment of the damage, which is a first step to requesting federal disaster assistance.
