Gov. Walker Approves Rule To Drug Test People On Unemployment
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Starting next week, some Wisconsin residents will have to pass a drug test in order to get unemployment benefits.
Gov. Scott Walker's office announced the rule Wednesday after he approved an emergency request by the state's Department of Workforce Development.
People who fail a drug test while receiving unemployment will lose the benefits, as will anyone who refuses to take a test requested from a potential employer.
"This rule is a common-sense reform which strengthen our workforce by helping people find and keep a family supporting job," Walker said.
It is not clear what protocol will be used to single out UI benefit earners to be tested.
