Wis. Gov. Walker Touts State Ties During Trip To Iowa
WEST DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Wisconsin's Republican governor, Scott Walker, is introducing himself to Iowa Republicans as would-be presidential candidates often do -- as one of their own.
Walker tells about 600 of the GOP faithful at a party fundraising banquet in a Des Moines suburb that he spent his childhood in Iowa.
That connection could help when saying hello to the people who could have a big say in whether Walker advances in Iowa's presidential caucuses, should he run for the White House in 2016.
Walker broadly describes himself as a fellow Midwesterner, and one in touch with everyday people.
In his remarks Thursday night, Walker encouraged Republicans to be more optimistic, more relevant and more courageous.
