Wis. Boy Who Died On Duluth Ski Trip Identified
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A 12-year-old Wisconsin boy who died in a skiing accident on a church trip to Duluth's Spirit Mountain has been identified.
Trent Stellrecht of Grantsburg, Wis., died from injuries suffered after hitting a tree on Friday afternoon.
The Duluth News Tribune reports Stellrecht was one of 12 children on a ski trip organized by Living Hope Church near Grantsburg.
The church's youth director, Chris Radtke, says Stellrecht had been on a beginner hill most of the day and then apparently went off on his own to a more challenging hill.
Radtke says the boy apparently was unable to make a turn and struck a tree at high speed.
Ski Patrol members found Stellrecht lying on the ground not breathing. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.
