Wis. Battle Of Abortion-Themed License Plates Continues
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two weeks after Republicans who control the state Assembly voted to create anti-abortion license plates that say "Choose Life," Democrats have introduced a proposal to create plates that say "Support Planned Parenthood."
The measure is sponsored by Democratic state Rep. Chris Taylor, of Madison. She is a former public policy director for Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.
Taylor's bill was introduced Monday and referred to the Assembly's Transportation Committee. The bill is likely to die in committee. The panel's chairman, Republican Rep. Keith Ripp, has a 100 percent approval rating with anti-abortion group Wisconsin Right to Life. Taylor's ranking is 0 percent.
Two weeks ago the Assembly voted to create the "Choose Life" plates, with the money raised going to a corporation newly formed by anti-abortion groups.
