Winter Storm Has Minn. Drivers Crawling Home
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Despite an army of plows out trying to clear the way, drivers found themselves crawling home during the evening rush.
During Wednesday afternoon rush hour, commuters found a sea of tail lights no matter what route they tried to take home.
Traffic management cameras showed that the usual backups at the usual spots – including Interstates 94, 494 and Highway 169 -- looked more like parking lots than freeways.
Spin outs led to several cars leaving the roadway, which slowed the commute even more. For some, just getting on an exit ramp was a chore.
Driving in this weather is a lot of work and most can't help but to think about the work that still needs to be done when they get home.
"Probably won't be shoveling too long. Hopefully somebody at home already did it for me," said one commuter.
Hugo Searl uses his snow blower to ease the minds of his neighbors.
"I think it would be nice for people to come home and find their driveways blown out," Hugo Searl said.
Searl hopes his efforts are enough to keep the minds of those commuting focused on being patient during the rough, snowy commute home.
Some commuters say the snow added 45 minutes to an hour to a commute that usually takes 15 minutes.
Let's hope Thursday brings a better commute for all.
