$1M Powerball Winner Reported In Minnesota
BRAINTREE, Mass. (WCCO/AP) -- Massachusetts' treasurer says she offered advice to the winner of the $758.7 million Powerball jackpot and her family about being careful with their newfound wealth.
Deb Goldberg tells reporters on Thursday that "a lot of people will be coming at them with all sorts of things." She says she encouraged them to find very good lawyers and advisers and to think carefully about how they're going to manage their money.
Fifty-three-year-old Mavis L. Wanczyk, of Chicopee, won the jackpot. On her Facebook page Thursday afternoon, someone had already written to her asking for help for his family to pay off a $100,000 house.
It's the largest grand prize won by a single lottery ticket in U.S. history.
Wanczyk worked at a hospital for 32 years but quit when she won.
Closer to home, a ticket worth $1 million was bought in Howard Lake, Minnesota. Also, a ticket purchased by Eden Prairie resident Michael Brewer earned him a $200,000 prize.
As of Thursday afternoon, state lottery officials reported the winner of the $1 million ticket had not yet come forward to claim their prize.
The owner of Pit Stop, the convenience store where the ticket was sold said he couldn't believe one of his customers had won.
Dave Rollins will get $5,000.00 for his store because they sold the winning ticket.
"We are excited," Rollins said. "This is a small town and things like this don't happen every day."
The state lottery reports a $1 million winner would receive a check for $677,500 after taxes.
Minnesota has had 22 Powerball jackpot winners.
Since 2012, Minnesota has had 27 $1 million Powerball winners and one $2 million Powerball winner.

A mistake by the Massachusetts State Lottery has injected a little extra drama into the massive Powerball drawing.
Lottery officials early Thursday corrected the site where the single winning ticket was sold to Chicopee, in western Massachusetts. Overnight, they had announced the winning ticket was sold at a shop in Watertown, just outside Boston.
But shortly before 8 a.m., the lottery said it had made a mistake, and that the winning ticket was sold across the state at the Pride Station & Store in Chicopee, in Western Massachusetts.
The lottery did not say how the error was made.
