Wife Accused Of Stabbing Husband Multiple Times
MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 35-year-old woman is in custody after police say she stabbed her husband several times, including a wound to the spinal cord, which will likely leave him paralyzed as a result.
Maple Grove Police say they were dispatched to the residence at 8303 Oakview Court twice -- the first around 2:25 p.m. on a report that the victim's wife, Aisha Baig, of Maple Grove, was caring for their infant while intoxicated.
Officers spoke with both parties and determined the woman was under the influence, after she tested .22 on a preliminary breathalyzer test. The couple assured police they were capable of caring for the infant and that no further intervention was needed. Officers discussed counseling options for alcohol abuse and cleared the scene.
At 3:58 p.m., police were dispatched to the residence a second time. Upon arrival, police noticed blood stains near the front door and heard crying and screaming from inside. Officers entered the home and saw the victim lying on the floor bleeding profusely, with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds.
Police say Baig was in the residence, covered in blood, with wounds to her fingers and hands consistent with injuries one would sustain from a hand slipping down the handle of a knife while stabbing another person. She was arrested and is currently in custody.
Police say the couple's infant was also present. The victim was transported to the hospital, where doctors determined he suffered a stab wound to the neck, chest, shoulder, back of the neck, back of the left arm, upper back, three to the lower back and one in the middle of his back.
The victim required emergency surgery due to a laceration on his liver and injuries to his diaphragm. According to the complaint, a stab wound also stuck his spinal cord, which is believed to leave him paralyzed.
Officers found two knives at the scene, both with blood on the blade and handle.
Authorities spoke to Baig's brother who said he was on the phone with the couple that day and said Baig sounded intoxicated during the calls. He said after the first police visit, the victim called him and asked him to speak to Baig and try to calm her down. He said Baig refused to come to the phone. He said the victim said he was going to "take their baby" and an argument ensued.
The brother told police he heard the victim say, "put that down" and "put the knife down" then heard the phone being dropped before the call was disconnected.
The victim is out of surgery but his condition is unknown at this time.
