What Will We Spend This Holiday Season?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new holiday shopping survey shows people plan to spend more this holiday shopping season, but for the first time ever, stores are not the first place people are going.
Most consumers, who were surveyed by the finance company Deloitte, said the Internet is their top shopping destination.
The average American plans to spend about $421 on gifts, which is up about 8 percent from last year.
More surprisingly, nearly a third of people plan to have most of their shopping done before Black Friday.
Many stores are doing what they can to accommodate those plans. Another major department store just announced they will be jumping on the "before Black Friday" bandwagon.
Kohl's just announced it will open its stores at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night. Last year, Kohl's stores opened at midnight going into Friday morning.
This year, Kohl's will be open for 28 hours straight to kick off the holiday shopping season. Company executives say people are already shopping at midnight, and they want to be their first stop.
