Wettstein Is Big Ten Special Teams Player Of Week
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Minnesota kicker Jordan Wettstein has been named the Big Ten's Special Teams Player of the Week.
The award was announced Monday by the conference.
Wettstein attempted his first college kicks Saturday against Iowa while filling in for injured regular Chris Hawthorne, who had a strained quadriceps muscle.
The junior from De Pere, Wis., helped the Gophers beat the Hawkeyes 22-21 by making an extra point and a 28-yard field goal. Wettstein also successfully executed an onside kick attempt that Minnesota recovered midway through the fourth quarter to set up the go-ahead touchdown.
The Gophers play at Michigan State this Saturday.
