Weather Delays Sandbagging In Fargo-Moorhead Area
FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Officials in Fargo and neighboring Moorhead, Minn., say they are waiting for warmer weather to begin sandbag deployment.
The two cities had planned to deliver sandbags to neighborhoods through the weekend to help residents defend against expected major Red River flooding. That has been postponed until at least the end of next week.
Officials say they don't want the sandbags to freeze before they are placed on the ground. The two cities plan to deliver about 3 million sandbags to start the flood fight.
Moorhead Mayor Mark Voxland says the city is in a "watch and wait" mode, especially with the forecast of a weekend storm. But he says the city has done everything it can to prepare for flooding.
