Weather Blog: First Winter Storm Watch

The first winter weather of the season to impact parts of the area Tuesday into Wednesday. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for southeastern Minnesota and much of western Wisconsin, including Owatonna, Rochester, Red Wing, Rice Lake and Eau Claire for Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

An intense area of low pressure developing out of the Central Plains will first bring rain showers to southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin late Monday night into Tuesday.

As colder air builds into the region Tuesday night a change to a rain/snow mix and wet snow is likely. Expect general snowfall accumulations within the watch area of 2-4 inches with locally higher amounts by midday Wednesday.

There is a chance of snow showers in the Twin Cities but little accumulation expected. A slushy accumulation is possible in the southeastern suburbs.
