Weather Blog: A Quiet Christmas

By Ron Trenda, WCCO-TV

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This year's Christmas won't feature any snowstorms. Lots of clouds still cover Minnesota and western Wisconsin, and a few snowflakes are possible from time to time, but nothing that you'll have to shovel.

Last Christmas, we were digging out from a snowstorm that started Dec. 23 and continued into Christmas Eve, then tapered off to light snow on Christmas. The Twin Cities had from 8 to 14 inches from that storm, with the highest snow amounts in the west metro. The snow changed to rain for awhile in the central and east metro, so snow amounts were lower there.

Travel will be much easier this Christmas.

Looking ahead, computer models are showing a strong winter storm moving toward us late Thursday and Friday. It could bring a mix of rain and heavy snow to parts of MN and WI.

We'll be watching the weather forecast models closely to track this potential storm and the projected path. Check back with WCCO-TV for updated forecasts the next few days -- the storm could really mess up travel late in the week.
