WCCO Saturday Morning Links & Recap (Sept. 26)
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This first weekend of fall is jam-packed with fun!
Grab your broom, put on that invisibility cloak and get those wands ready, because "The Pub Crawl That Must Not Be Named" is going down Saturday night from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Yes, it is Harry Potter themed and will feature nine different bars in downtown Minneapolis. Costumes are encouraged, and they might even get you a deal!
The annual fall raptor release is also happening Saturday, and it is your chance to see rehabilitated raptors sent back into the wild. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Open Arms of Minnesota provides meals free of charge for Twin Cities folks living with life-threatening illnesses. Kylie Bearse & Matt Brickman helped kick off their 24-Hour Cook-A-Thon Friday afternoon, and it continues until 4 p.m. Saturday. They have raised over $100,000 so far. Click here to donate.
Fall colors will be popping soon, and WCCO's Natalie Nyhus asked viewers and readers for their pick for the Best Fall Hiking Trail in Minnesota. Your votes made her pull up her hiking boots and head north to Gooseberry Falls in Two Harbors! It is open year-round, but the DNR recommends visiting during the week when the crowds are smaller.
Saturday is also the eighth annual SurlyFest, and it is the first year it will be held at the new Minneapolis brewery on Malcolm Avenue. It is an outdoor party with beer, food and live music -- running from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40, and it gets you a commemorative half-liter SurlyFest stein.
This is a little hard to believe, but the "Real Housewives" series has been with us for almost 10 years, starting in Orange County in 2006. Now, housewives in the Twin Cities are getting their time in the spotlight -- onstage at the New Century Theater in downtown Minneapolis. "The Realish Housewives of Edina" runs through Nov. 15.
Speaking of Edina, the first-ever Open Streets Edina event is Sunday along 50th Street.
And antiquers and crafters will want to head to Shakopee Saturday for the last day of Junk Bonanza. It features more than 150 vendors. Look through room after room of vintage and antique finds as well as salvaged, repurposed and upcycled pieces in furniture, home decor and more. There are also demonstrations and giveaways. Junk Bonanza is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Canterbury Park. Tickets are $10.
