MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Here are all the great activities and places that Natalie Nyhus and Mike Augustyniak covered on WCCO Saturday Morning!
Got a little shopping to do? Don't forget the skates. The first annual Holiday Ice Skating Rink is now open at Southdale Center in Edina. Practice your triple axels and spins throughout the holiday season. And when you get cold, head to their warming house in the AMC Theater. And Natalie and Mike want to give a big thanks to Paige and Ava from the Figure Skating Club of Bloomington for showing them the ropes!
Old photos have a way of transporting you back in time, if they ever come out of the closet or shoebox where you stored them. That's exactly how the Mill City Museum's newest exhibition came about -- "Downtown: Minneapolis In The 1970s." Click here for more information.
Speaking of downtown Minneapolis, Santaland is back at Macy's in downtown Minneapolis for the 53rd year! Santa himself will be there to gather wish lists of children across the state. Guests will walk through the animated story of Santa's elves as they prepare for Christmas. You can also check out Mrs. Claus' holiday bakery, which include her famous gingerbread cookies. Santaland opens Saturday at 10 a.m., and it goes until Christmas Eve. It's at the eighth floor auditorium of the Macy's along Nicollet Mall.
The ski and snowboard season has officially begun, a month later than usual. Wild Mountain in Taylors Falls opened for the season Friday. They have at least two runs open, with two to three feet of man-made snow. Click here to visit their website.
One of the biggest trends in the food world for 2016 is the vegetable. Most experts agree that Americans eat too much meat. But it's not a trend for one Minneapolis chef. Brenda Langton has been talking about the healing power of food since the 1970s. That's why DeRusha Eats at her 10-year-old restaurant: Spoonriver.
During the winter months, warm comfort food is definitely a go-to when the weather is cold. And nothing quite compares to that delicious bowl of piping-hot chili. So Natalie Nyhus' search for the best chili in Minnesota took her to a place that serves up something for every taste -- the Loon Cafe in Minneapolis.
