Wander Minnesota: The Wearing O' The Green
Yes, it's that time of year again -- St. Patrick's Day is tomorrow, and as usual, there's no shortage of festivities. Even though the weather is forecasting a chance of rain, after our long winter, that seems like a cause for celebration too.
St. Paul's O'Gara's celebrates its 70th St. Patrick's Day with a full day of events, including the World's Shortest St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Kieran Folliard is getting the holiday off to a big start today by launching his new 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, first at Minneapolis's The Local, and then at Kieran's (also in Minneapolis), The Liffey in St. Paul, and Cooper in St. Louis Park.
Of course there will be parades of larger scale than the one at O'Gara's. In St. Paul, the parade starts at noon at 4th and Sibley. In Minneapolis, the parade kicks off on Nicollet Mall at 6:30 p.m. So it's entirely possible to celebrate St. Patty's day on both sides of the river!
There are other Irish pubs around the metro too, and you can bet they'll be ready and happy to help you toast the Saint's day. In Minneapolis, check out Keegan's or O'Donovans. In St. Paul, stop by Cork's or Patrick McGovern's. Suburban options include Excelsior's Jake O'Connor's; St. Louis Park's Kip's; Maple Grove's Claddagh; Woodybury's O'Malley's; or Maple Plain's McGarry's.
And, to make your St. Patty's Day celebration even better, Metro Transit (along with the Minnesota Valley Transit Authority and Plymouth Metrolink) is offering free bus rides from 6 p.m. and later on 3/17. Drink all the green beer you want, and keep yourself and others safe.
