Wander Minnesota: Mother's Day Is Almost Here
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- It's almost here — one of the most popular restaurant days of the year. Have you made your Mother's Day dining plans yet? If not, hop to. The last thing you want to have to do come May 8 is explain to Mom that you waited too long.
If she's not a vegetarian, a great spot would be Fogo de Chao, which has a special Mother's Day lunch planned as well as dinner service. It's hard to beat the fun of servers flying about with sizzling hot meat on a stick.
If you're looking for something a little less hectic and a little more formal, make a call to the Nicollet Island Inn. This year's 5-course champagne brunch offers choices of duck confit and sweet potato hash, crème brulee French toast and butter-poached lobster gnocchi.
Who knows? Maybe the weather would be nice enough to enjoy brunch on the lovely patio at W.A. Frost in St. Paul. Even if the weather doesn't cooperate, it won't matter once you've gotten your plate of omelette or Benedict.
If Mom likes to keep it casual, not to mention hearty, it might be time to visit Victor's 1959 Cafe for a sweet plantain omelette or Cuban hash. On the other side of the river, you can get your Caribbean groove on by brunching at Caribe Bistro and enjoy sweet potato pancakes or tortilla Española.
Black Forest Inn will offer live music and specials like veggie strudel and German chocolate cake. Bonus — if the weather's good, Black Forest has one of the Twin Cities' best outdoor patios.
You can also enjoy live music with your meal at the Dakota Jazz Club, with musicians Jeanne Arland and Patty Peterson, and a decadent menu of maple and cracked pepper pork belly, three cheese and mushroom crepe —and green eggs and ham.
St. Paul's Pazzaluna will be open for brunch with, of course, Italian-themed options.
If your Mom is into a good beer list, you can't go wrong with a brunch trip to The Happy Gnome, which has an extensive and exemplary list of beers, local and international. Also: crab cake Benedict and stuffed French toast.
