Walker Says Obama, Federal Government Must Fix Subsidies
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker says if the U.S. Supreme Court strikes down health care subsidies, it's up to President Barack Obama and Congress to fix it and not the states.
Walker was asked Wednesday in Milwaukee whether he had a contingency plan if the subsidies are eliminated. Walker says Obama and Congress are "going to want to kick the problem to the states and we're not going to take it."
Wisconsin is one of 34 states that rely on the federal health exchange. The Supreme Court is expected to rule this month on whether law's wording limits the aid to states operating their own insurance marketplaces.
Walker says any of the 184,000 Wisconsin residents who have purchase insurance through the federal marketplace and are worried should contact the president and Congress.
