Waiting In Line For Black Friday An 'Adventure'?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Joe Geary has been camping out for Black Friday for 15 years.
Since Tuesday, he's been outside the Richfield Best Buy, waiting for the Thursday midnight opening. He says it's all about the deals. He described some of his best gets.
"I think the best deal I got in the last couple of years was a TV that was $1,200, I got for $400, and a computer that could have been a thousand bucks, I got for two or three hundred," he said.
Those were door buster deals you cannot get online.
"Some of those are announced, some of those are not announced; and they will be pennies on the dollar," Geary said.
James Holt was also camping out at the Richfield Best Buy. He says he loves camping out because it's like an adventure.
"I love the people that I meet," he said.
The thrill, he says, comes in the hunt for the big deal. He almost didn't share with us what he's after this year. He says he plans to buy a $1,800 3D TV on sale for $800. As for Thanksgiving, he says his wife will be bringing him the meal while he waits in line.
A few miles away at the Mall of America, no one is lined up -- yet. It is, however, the second year the MOA's 180 stores will be open at midnight.
Last year's Black Friday was the biggest in the mall's 20 year history, according to mall spokesperson Dan Jasper.
"We had 35,000 people waiting in line to get into the mall at midnight, and all day we welcomed about 217,000 people last year," Jasper said.
Black Friday and the anticipation around it seems to be bigger than ever.
