1 Dead, 1 In Custody After Waite Park Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say a murder suspect in a Waite Park incident was arrested after a pursuit with law enforcement in North Dakota ended with the suspect crashing a possible stolen vehicle on Sunday.
The Waite Park Police Department says a shooting happened Saturday afternoon at an apartment complex on 460 Park Meadows Drive. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to his chest and was brought to St. Cloud Hospital shortly after 2 p.m.
Not long after, he was pronounced dead. Waite Park police said Sunday the victim was a 19-year-old male with an address in St. Cloud. The victim's name has not been released.
A preliminary investigation named a suspect, who was arrested early Sunday morning after a chase near Bismarck, North Dakota. Police identified the suspect Sunday as 20-year-old Desmond Omandy Barzey. During the murder investigation, it was learned that Barzey was possibly heading west on Interstate 94 across North Dakota.
Authorities located a vehicle with no license plates and attempted a traffic stop, and the suspect vehicle fled. The chase ended with the suspect, identified as Barzey, crashing the vehicle and being taken into custody.
