Wabasha Citizens Sue The County & State Over Safe Driving Program
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The citizens of Wabasha are suing their county and the state over an illegal safe driving class program, according to a press release from attorneys Mohrman & Kaardal.
After the Wabasha County Board of Commissioners refused to hear a resolution to stop the Wabasha County Sheriff's Department's Safe Driving Class program, the lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in Wabasha County District Court.
The Minnesota State Auditor had previously warned county officials that the program wasn't authorized under state law. County officials ignored the auditor and continued keeping the money obtained from program attendees within the county and failed to disburse funds to the state as it would be required under a lawful program, the release stated.
The release said because other state officials refused to take action, the State of Minnesota, the State Attorney General, and the State Auditor's Office were named as defendants.
