Vote On $800M Construction Bill May Come Friday
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota House plans a Friday debate an $800 million construction projects bill that can't pass without Republican votes.
It's the only bill that Democrats, who also control the Senate and governor's office, can't pull off by themselves because issuing long-term bonds takes three-fifths majorities for passage.
The bill would pay for construction projects on college campuses, at regional civic centers, for flood mitigation and other things. The centerpiece is a $109 million installment for the state Capitol renovation, which planners call essential for keeping the project on schedule.
House Majority Leader Erin Murphy says the bill might be brought up even if the outcome is in doubt.
House Minority Leader Kurt Daudt says the bill is too big and he doesn't expect the eight GOP crossovers to pass it.
