Volunteers Work To Find Family Photos In N. Mpls Debris
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Dozens of Wells Fargo employees volunteered their time, giving up air-conditioned offices for shovels and brooms, Monday to help pick up debris in storm-ravaged North Minneapolis.
While picking up small debris, they kept an eye out for family photos.
"We're going to be putting them on Facebook to outreach to the families in hopes that we can bring the pictures back into the families," said Glennis Ter Wisscha of Neighborhood Housing Services.
The Northside Community Response Team says the tornado caused more than $1.6 million of damage and affected more than 3,500 homes.
The group also says 3,000 volunteers have helped in the clean-up so far.
"I really feel for these people that live in these neighborhoods and hope they know that, you know, there's a lot of people out here to help them," said Sue Walker, a Wells Fargo volunteer.
The cleanup effort will likely take years, not weeks.
Many non-profits are also involved in the North Side clean-up. The Red Cross, for example, has served 145,000 meals and snacks in the last three weeks.
