'Vikings Voyage' Lets Fans Face The Pros At U.S. Bank Stadium
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- For the first time Vikings fans got a chance to experience "Vikings Voyage" Friday. It's another unique aspect of U.S. Bank Stadium where fans can test their skills through virtual reality and other methods.
It starts with the new Vikings Locker Room where you'll find a little something for every Vikings fan.
"I'm buying tattoos, can coolers, a ton of accessories," Vikings fan Kris Johnson said.
When you walk up the stairs from the locker room, you'll walk into a world of Vikings history and virtual reality.
"These are RFID bands," Vikings representative Erin Swartz said. "These will allow people to log in and track their scores throughout the space."
Wristbands in place, fans got a chance to test their skills in the Vikings Voyage. There's a game where you can try and catch passes from Teddy Bridgewater.
"It was awesome. Everything was so real," Vikings fan Maddux Shockman said.
"It's pretty cool. It's real life. So it seems like you are actually there and actually playing," Vikings fan Raegan Johnson said.
There are even opportunities to test your strength and test your knowledge of Purple history -- with the Lore of the North. Milestones accomplished by players of the past are on display, including a tribute to Cris Carter's 1,000 catches.
"One thousand of these balls are suspended from the ceiling which gives you a sense of the enormity of that accomplishment," Swartz said.
Everything here is about connecting fans with the team. Even if that means running a drill where you can compare your time to Vikings cornerback Terence Newman.
"He was a little bit faster. Just a bit," said fan Micah Reed.
The Vikings Voyage will open at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning, a few hours before kick-off.
