Vikings Travel To London Next Fall To Play Pittsburgh
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Vikings are going across the pond next fall to play the Pittsburgh Steelers at London's Wembley Stadium.
The game abroad was announced during the NFL owners' meetings on Tuesday. The Vikings/Steelers match-up will be the seventh game in the NFL's London International Series, and it'll take place on Sept. 29, 2013.
"This is a unique opportunity for the Vikings organization to highlight our brand on an international level," said Vikings Owner/President Mark Wilf in a press release. "Playing in London provides exceptional exposure to the team, as well as Minnesota's impressive business community and tourism industry. We are honored to represent the NFL on a global level, and we look forward to playing in front of our international fan base."
The game will start at 5 p.m. in the UK; that's high noon for Vikings fans back home. The Vikings have been to London before. Minnesota had a preseason game against the St. Louis Cardinals back in 1983, and won 28-10.
Playing abroad brings out perfection for Minnesota, as the Vikings are 4-0 in international match-ups, highlighted by a 17-9 exhibition win in 1994 over Kansas City in Tokyo.
