Viking's Rudolph Looks To Step Up Offensive Game
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you're looking for a player to upgrade in Norv Turner's offense, it might be a veteran on the cusp - Kyle Rudolph.
"Well, the biggest thing normally when you come back for an offseason, you're already familiar with, you know, your offense or your defense and you're kinda just working on perfecting your craft out here on the practice field every day," Rudolph said. "No, we've got installs learning new plays, learning a new system, so, you know, we spend a lot of time in the classroom."
What he wants to do is what he's done in the past, only more often.
"Be dynamic, to be a guy that we count as a playmaker in this offense. Not just a guy who, you know, we get in the red zone and everybody looks for 82," he said.
That's what a veteran offensive mind is supposed to do: create space for the people that will use it, according to Coach Mike Zimmer.
"He understand who's the guys to get the ball to, number one, and when I've played him in the past he's always figured out who they're trying to take away and then counter that," Zimmer said.
That's the way Rudolph understands it. If you're open, you better be ready and you better deliver.
"This is a playmaker-friendly offense. It doesn't matter if you're a tight end, a wide receiver, a running back, a quarterback," Rudolph said.
