Vikings Fans Reflect On A Rollercoaster Season
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Vikings season is officially over. The team ended the year at dead last with a loss to the Detroit Lions. Even though this season didn't end the way fans and the team had hoped, it is one everyone will be talking about for years to come.
Whether you had dreams of a Vikings Super Bowl win, or knew this just wouldn't be their year, the purple and gold gave their fans quite the show.
"I had a feeling it was going to implode when a lot of the players didn't show up for training camp," said Tom Johnson, a longtime Vikings fan.
It just happened to be off the field, rather than on the field. Stores hoping to make a sale with a mid-season addition to the team, can't get rid of the No. 84 jersey.
"It's in my closet and probably will sit there for quite few years before I give up and burn it," said Vikings fan Gary Schlauch.
The same cannot be said for No. 4. Brett Favre not only ended his record-setting starting streak, but may also be at the end of his career.
"I'll wear mine forever just because everyone from Wisconsin sees it, and it still reminds them that he left and came here," said Johnson.
One person did see his Vikings career come to a close -- Brad Childress. The change in leadership led to the first winning streak of the year for the Vikes, too.
"I think Frazier is going to be a great coach so I'm looking forward to seeing him in action," said fan Nate Torso.
Let's not forget the purple and gold didn't have a home for the last two home games of the season, but fans did get a taste of outdoor football for the first time in nearly three decades.
"It was crazy. It was freezing rain, it was snowing, but it probably was one of the best experiences of the whole year," said Vikings cheerleader, Brooke.
The first fall game of 2011 is still months away, but the season is already shaping up to be just as eventful.
From talk of a lockout to the fate of the Metrodome, if we've learned anything from 2010, when it comes to the Vikings, expect the unexpected.
"I'll be rooting for them not matter what," said Tim Hart, a Vikings fan.
