Vikings DT Kevin Williams Out For Opener
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Kevin Williams has been ruled out for the season opener Sunday against Detroit.
Coach Leslie Frazier said on Friday that Williams was not able to practice all week. The coach believes his star defensive tackle is close to returning, but not quite ready to play.
Williams suffered a bone bruise and hyperextension in his knee against San Francisco in the Vikings' third preseason game. He says the knee is starting to feel better, but here was no sense risking it by coming back too soon.
Williams says he would be shocked if he is not available to play in the second game, at Chicago next week.
The injury means rookie first-round draft pick Sharrif Floyd will get plenty of action in his NFL debut.
