Vikings Draft 2013: Let The Speculation Continue
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Let the speculation begin -- or continue.
The Vikings have two picks in the first round, and Vikings GM Rick Spielman met with the media on Tuesday for his annual draft press conference.
It could be an interesting first round, and with a deep draft, Spielman thinks they would trade down before they trade up.
"If we decide to trade back in this draft because of the depth at the positions of need that we have, we can still get a similar player," Spielman said.
Much speculation has been that the Vikings will get Manti Te'o, the controversial and yet effective linebacker from Notre Dame.
Manti Te'o is easy fodder because of his checkered season -- but how much should character weigh over talent?
Tony Dungy says a lot.
"That's what the Vikings need to do," Dungy said. "You want guys who are going to buy into how you're doing this, and be great teammates."
Last year the Vikings seemed to have hit a first-round jackpot with Matt Kalil and Harrison Smith.
So maybe it's not about the draft as much as much as it's about scouting for the draft.
"We had another meeting for four hours today hammering through different scenarios and hot spots, not just in the first round, but throughout the draft," Spielman said.
