Vikings D Looks To Get After Future Hall Of Famer Peyton Manning
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- This Sunday's game should be a fun one for the Minnesota Vikings. They have rejuvenated their defense over the past two games, both convincing victories.
Sunday, they get to put that defense to the test against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos. Mike Max has more on the Manning match-up.
It's simple: You are up against a complicated quarterback.
"We go out there and we have to be hitting on all keys. That's the main part I believe." linebacker Gerald Hodges said. "If the Vikings are hitting on all keys and all cylinders, not just the defense but all areas of the football, I feel like we'll be fine."
When you play against Peyton Manning, it's kind of like where the video game meets the real thing. Because there's so many different things you can do, and it's such a chess match.
And maybe that's what makes it fun, seeing who can out-think the other.
That's where this gets fun. What is he trying to do you, and what can you do to him?
"So we've definitely got to show different looks and it starts with me," corner back Captain Munnerlyn said. "I have tendencies of showing this or showing that, so being the nickel back you definitely have to show different looks."
"And he sees an awful lot of things. There is probably not a blitz we can devise that he hasn't seen. There's probably not a coverage we've run that he hasn't seen," Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said of Manning.
And let it not be forgotten what the Vikings have done the past two weeks is set the tone with defense against two pretty good quarterbacks.
"You know he's one of the great quarterbacks. You have to say it like it is," defensive end Everson Griffen said. "He's a great quarterback, he's going to be in the Hall of Fame one day and he has his team rolling. The biggest thing for us to do is just go out there and play our style of ball. Like I always say, go out there and get to him, make him feel uncomfortable in the pocket."
