Vikings Cayleb Jones Arrested For Alleged Theft, Domestic Assault

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings is in jail, accused of domestic assault.

Prosecutors have not yet charged 25-year-old Cayleb Jones. He went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft after playing for the University of Arizona. The Vikings signed him in December of that year.

WCCO's Mike Max has more on this player that was hoping to crack the roster this year for the first time.

Cayleb Jones was a long shot to make the Vikings 53-man roster as a wide receiver. Now, he's got bigger issues than football

Eagan police say they were called to the Country Inn Suites on Tuesday on a report of a domestic assault. Investigators say there was a verbal altercation between Jones and a woman, which turned physical.

Jones fled, but later turned himself in to Eagan police. He was then taken to Dakota County Jail on suspicion of theft, domestic assault and impeding a 911 call.

A decision on charges is expected by Thursday.

Jones is also facing a four-game suspension heading into the season.

Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman released a statement, saying "We are aware of the situation involving Cayleb Jones and are in the process of gathering more information. Further comment will be provided at the appropriate time."

He has a couple preseason receptions, but really was fighting for a spot on the roster and not expected to be a contributor.
