Vikings Banking On Xavier Rhodes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Xavier Rhodes showcased his skills in the passing scrimmage Saturday during Minnesota Vikings training camp in Mankato, Minn.
What he wants is simple: Be consistent, be good.
Vikings Defensive End Brian Robison says Rhodes' size and skill are big assets.
"He's obviously trying to learn the defense and he's doing pretty well. Obviously his athleticism and size at corner helps him out tremendously," Robison said. "You know, we just got to keep those guys on the books, keep them pushing."
Head Coach Mike Zimmer specializes in coaching the secondary and the defense. He understands who Xavier Rhodes is, and he understands who he wants him to be. He wants to see a young player blossom in year two.
"He's got a lot of ability. We got to keep refining his technique," Zimmer said. "He's such a young guy. I've got to keep teaching him about the game."
Rhodes says that coming from college, a player doesn't really know what they're up against in the pro world.
"You was anxious to go against certain players, and now you're going against them, now you know what to expect," Rhodes said.
He's originally from Miami, and he played college football for Florida State University.
