Viking Chris Cook Seeking Redemption This Fall

MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) -- Chris Cook's trying to make this a season of redemption.

Cook sat out much of last season with a domestic charge hanging over his head.

He won in court, but knows that doesn't mean the public forgets.

Now he's back playing football after having to watch the second half of last season.

"It made me appreciate it a lot more," Cook said. "Not that I didn't before, but it made me realize what I could lose, and what I would be losing, if I weren't able to play football."

So far, he's been crucial to a team that needs help.

"He plays like a vet, he's intelligent and he's in shape," said defensive coordinator Alan Williams.

Character is what coach Leslie Frazier preaches. And Cook, with his flawed past, may have to attend a special place with the head coach.

Frazier's next move might be bringing Cook with him to church.

"I'm sure he'll ask me to come with him," Cook said.
