Vikes & Packers Fans Tailgate In Harmony
GREEN BAY, Wis. (WCCO) - In the Kroll's parking lot, tailgating is in in full swing. There's music, there's food, but not enough Vikings fans.
They've all set up their own Vikings villages around Lambeau Field. Their goal is to show Packers fans how it's done.
In the shadow of Lambeau field, Josh Goolsbee feels right at home, mainly because he brought nearly all the comforts from his home to tailgate. His take on tailgating is much more than a simple barbeque and a few friends.
"We felt like if we were coming down here to the game and driving instead of flying, we had to bring the whole ensemble," Goolsbee said.
Josh is among the many Vikings fans following the team into enemy territory. It's an influx of purple and gold, a color combination that wasn't so welcome in years past. Packers fans weren't always willing to sell a seat in a border battle, but fan Erik Gregor says the market has changed.
"It's kind of boring, you know. The fans bring excitement, you know. A lot of trash talking each other - good fun," Gregor said.
In the frozen tundra hearts have thawed. Sacred ground now shared with the biggest of rivals.
"They're soft here; they're very soft. These cheese heads are soft," Goolsbee said.
An invitation that could make all the difference at game time.
"As long as we do our part and tailgate hard, we'll bring home a 'W'," he said.
