Vietnam Veterans Honored At Fort Snelling Ceremony
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Vietnam veterans were honored Sunday during a special service at Fort Snelling's historic chapel.
The ceremony marked the 50th anniversary of the U.S. buildup of military personnel in South Vietnam. The Pentagon wants to elevate the status of Vietnam vets to the status of World War II and Korean War veterans.
"Up until now, they've not had any official recognition," retired U.S. Army Chaplain Michael Wallman said. "This is now our official recognition so that our Vietnam veterans can take their place in history beside veterans of other wars."
The Minnesota Legislature has proclaimed Sunday "Vietnam Veterans Day."
