Veteran Gets Probation After Pot Bust In Winona
WINONA, Minn. (AP) -- An 81-year-old Army veteran has been sentenced to two years probation and a $200 find after authorities found an elaborate marijuana growing operation in his home just south of Winona.
The Winona Daily News reports Donald John Everding pleaded guilty in February to fifth-degree possession of the drug. He was sentenced Wednesday.
Sheriff's deputies acting on a tip raided Everding's home near a popular campground on Aug. 24 and found an outdoor greenhouse, a botanical laboratory and several marijuana plans over 8 feet tall.
More plants and drugs were found in the house. The veteran received a stay of adjudication, which means he won't have a felony conviction on his record if he follows the terms of his probation.
