Mpls. Soldier On Trial For Iraq Slaying Of 2 Comrades
FORT STEWART, Ga. (AP) -- Prosecutors say an Army sergeant sprayed 27 bullets at two fellow soldiers who had just criticized him for battlefield blunders in Iraq.
Maj. Andy McKee said Wednesday at a court-martial at Fort Stewart that Sgt. Joseph Bozicevich (BOZ-eh-vich) of Minneapolis yelled, "I'm going to kill you" before opening fire in September 2008 at his squad leader, Staff Sgt. Darris Dawson, and Sgt. Wesley Durbin. The shootings took place at a patrol base.
McKee said Durbin was fatally struck seven times while Dawson was hit six times.
Defense attorneys reserved their opening statement for later in the trial, which is expected to last for several months.
Bozicevich has pleaded not guilty.
The 41-year-old infantryman faces the death penalty if a military jury convicts him.
