Upcoming Construction Project To Close Parts Of Hwy. 169 For 1 Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – After a summer of frustrating road closures, the Minnesota Department of Transportation announced part of Highway 169 will be closed for up to a year!
A stretch of Hwy. 169 in Hopkins, Minnetonka and part of Edina will close in fall of 2016 to the fall of 2017. Lanes in both directions will be closed for the whole year.
Construction crews need to replace the Hwy. 169 bridge over Nine Mile Creek between Seventh Street and Bren Road.
MnDOT said the advantage of a full closure is that the construction impact will be reduced from three years to one year.
The project is scheduled to happen when less construction is taking place on alternate routes, and after the projects on Highway 100 and I-494 have been completed.
They said this will significantly reduce the risk to workers and drivers in work zones.
During this time, there will also be other improvements made on 169 from Highway 55 in Golden Valley to the Crosstown in Edina.
Crews will work on the ramps, and the pavement and noise walls will be repaired.
Traffic will be down to just one lane in each direction at times.
An Open House at the Hopkins Center for the Arts is being held Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. to learn more about the project.
MnDOT said these projects will improve driver safety as well as provide a smoother road surface and longer lasting bridge.
