University Regent Application Deadline Approaches
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — It's the final week for candidates to put their names into consideration for the University of Minnesota Board of Regents.
The Legislature will elect five regents to the state's 12-member governing board next year. Applicants have until Friday to get into the hunt.
Regents set policy and budgets for campuses in Crookston, Duluth, Morris, Rochester and the Twin Cities. The jobs are unpaid but are typically sought-after.
Four slots are filled every two years, but a fifth will be picked in 2015 because Regent David Larson died this fall before his term was up. Regents are elected to six-year terms.
The seats in contention this time will go to candidates in the first, fourth, sixth and seventh congressional districts. Larson's partial term is for someone in the third congressional district.
