Undrafted Vikings Rookie Zach Line: 61 Yards, 5 Stitches
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - Preseason games might not provide much in terms of seeing the starters, but they're a crucial audition for the guys trying to make a roster spot.
Friday night, undrafted rookie fullback Zach Line made the most of his. He only touched the ball one time, but Line made it last as long as he could: 61 yards, all the way to the end zone.
"[Wide receiver Stephen Burton] made a nice block for me, made it easy for me to get down the field. Seriously, he's just a, like a chariot riding down the sidelines," Line said.
He came to the Vikings after an impressive college career at SMU. His yardage was second only to Eric Dickerson in school history, kind of like how Adrian Peterson's yardage last year was second only to Dickerson in NFL history.
Fair to compare?
"I'm not gonna make that," he said. "Adrian's a good runner."
There's also a great fullback already on the Vikings roster, so Line knows last night's audition was for more than just Minnesota.
But as auditions go, perhaps he ought to just send a headshot. Nothing says bruising fullback like the five stitches across his forehead.
"This is proof to my fiancee that I'm doing something at training camp," Line said.
