UND Follows Captain's Lead Into Hockey Playoffs
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — The University of North Dakota men's hockey captain is on a roll, which could mean good things in this weekend's West Regional tournament in St. Paul.
UND is 14-0-0 over four years when senior Mario Lamoureux scores a goal. He's coming off a weekend during which he scored a pair of goals against rival Minnesota in the conference tournament.
Lamoureux has had a limited scoring role in his Sioux career but has a knack for dramatic goals. His only goal in this year's regular season happened to be the 10,000th goal in UND hockey history.
UND coaches say they were happy to see Lamoureux score last week, but his most important function on the team is leadership and consistent play.
UND opens regional play Saturday afternoon against Western Michigan.
