Shooter In UCLA Murder-Suicide Identified
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/CBS News) -- Classes resume Thursday on the campus of UCLA following a murder-suicide that left a professor dead.
William Klug was gunned down in an engineering building Wednesday morning.
Sources identify the gunman as Mainak Sarkar. CBS News has confirmed that he used a 9mm semi-automatic pistol to kill 39-year-old engineering professor Klug in an office, before taking his own life.
The university sent out an alert around 10 a.m. Wednesday, warning faculty and students of a possible "active shooter" in Boelter Hall.
The entire campus was placed on lockdown and Los Angeles police went on a citywide tactical alert.
Police recovered at least one gun and a note at the scene, CBS News reported.
"There is evidence there ... that could be a suicide note but we do not know that at this point," said LAPD Police Chief Charlie Beck.
