'U' Study: Working While Pregnant Doesn't Hurt Baby
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A new University of Minnesota study should put the minds of many pregnant women who are still on the job full-time at ease.
Dr. Katy Backes Kozhimannil and her colleagues compared women who worked full-time while pregnant with women who were not employed while expecting.
"What we found was no differences in low birth weight or preterm birth on the basis of employment status," she said.
That's not to say that certain jobs don't present health risks, but working per se doesn't.
"This is a concern that women expressed. And this study should provide reassurances to women that the requirement that they work during pregnancy is not necessarily in and of itself potentially harmful to their baby," Kozhimannil said.
