'U' Students Shaken By Apartment Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Some University of Minnesota students are shaken after a gunman fired several shots at someone inside their apartment building.
The shooting happened early Monday morning at The Marshall apartments near Dinkyown. One person was injured.
Fatimah Alkhunaizi was having friends over at her apartment Sunday night when they heard several loud bangs.
"I thought, like, something had broken," Alkhunaizi said.
They stayed inside her room until police arrived.
"I feel afraid," she said.
Roommates Tom Zimmer and Dylan Johnson say they came home Monday to at find at least 10 bullet holes in the hallway outside their door.
"It shredded different parts of the hallway," Zimmer said. "If anyone had been in the hallway they could have been killed."
There were also red splatters on the wall. Residents told us the holes had been painted over Tuesday morning, but they never heard from management about the shooting.
"As simple as an email the next day, I mean, that would have been great, you know," Johnson said.
WCCO reached out to the company that owns The Marshall. By Tuesday afternoon, management had sent out an email to residents saying the shooting involved two people who didn't live in the building.
They also said legal action would be taken against the resident who allowed the suspects inside.
Students say they are on edge when they see the marks left on their home.
"Even our friends are a little hesitant [to come over], and rightfully so. It's definitely nerve-wracking," Johnson said.
Minneapolis police are still searching for the shooter. The victim was not a student, and they are recovering at home.
