U.S. Senate Confirms Nelson As Federal Judge In Minn.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The U.S. Senate has confirmed Susan Richard Nelson as the next U.S. District Court judge in Minnesota.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar announced the confirmation in a statement Saturday. Nelson was nominated by Klobuchar last year and confirmed by the Senate Judiciary Committee in June.
Nelson has over 30 years of legal experience, including 10 years as a U.S. magistrate judge in Minnesota. Before that she was a trial lawyer in state and federal courts for 22 years.
In the mid-1990s she helped represent the state and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota in historic litigation against the tobacco industry.
Nelson replaces outgoing U.S. District Judge James Rosenbaum, who resigned in August.
