U.S. Bank Stadium Preps For Back-To-Back Concerts

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Preparations got underway on Monday for back to back shows at U.S. Bank Stadium. First up is Luke Bryan's "Kill the Lights" tour on Friday, followed by Metallica on Saturday.

The stadium is undergoing a major transformation. Crews removed the sod used for the soccer match earlier this month and put down a hard deck on the field.

"Each of these events sort of marks another big step in the progression of a multi-purpose stadium so obviously we're really concerned about making the best impression," Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority Chair Michele Kelm-Helgen said.

The stage fills the End Zone on the west side of the stadium. Kelm-Helgen says 40 percent of the roof is a hard deck for optimal sound.

"It is completely covered with what is called baffles and it essentially is acoustical treatments that have been put in and we've got speakers hanging everywhere," Kelm-Helgen said.

And there are curtains hanging from the ceiling, visitors can see the white through the outside of the building. She said they will ensure the sound doesn't reverberate off the glass.

All of the entrances will be open, so fans can flood every gate.
And those in charge admit each event is a learning experience, beginning with AC Milan versus Chelsea FC.

"We're working with Metro Transit to have light rail exiting hopefully go a little smoother so we're really trying to learn and we'll have plenty of Revival chicken so we won't run out," Kelm-Helgen said.

Unlike during the soccer match, the stadium will enforce the NFL Clear Bag Policy. Concert-goers will need to bring their clear Vikings bag or clear bags, size 12" x 6" x 12" or smaller, will be allowed. Small clutch bags that are 5×7 with or without a handle or strap, ma also be carried into the stadium.

Gates open at 5 p.m. on Friday, and at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
